The Trapeze

Life is a trapeze,
Swinging through space—
At first there’s a net,
A parent’s embrace
With luck we are taught
To love and give freely,
That joy comes through sacrifice,
Others, and beauty
The world says, hang tightly
To all we have earned,
Cling close to what’s ours—
But this I have learned
That we must let go
To live fully alive,
Trusting release is the way we will thrive
When we loosen our grip on that bar up above,
Faith becomes motion,
And trust turns to love
What does life look like
When fear fades away?
We find warmth and adventure,
And family, I pray
We give without counting,
We love without guard,
And feel heaven’s embrace
From our Father, not far
It’s frightening at first—
Our instincts say no,
But release brings a soaring
We’ll never outgrow
A joy and a power
No time can erase,
As love carries us home
At the end of the race
